Google have sadly changed from an information provider to an information seller. In the early days, the search results were far better - granted there was SERP spam, but this was easily spotted. Now the results page is a large part paid advertising, with many of the natural results being delivered poor quality... tail wagging the dog?

Wouldnt this "change" be hard for Google to judge what "above the fold" would be on some sites ? I mean most wordpress based sites loads the sidebar at the bottom of the HTML source which i would assume google would find it hard to put a placement on that ? So Really they would be saying dont put ads mixed with in the content ( above the fold ) , But then the adsense team would advise thats a prime location for a ads to be placed.

Yes there is something you can do about it! You can speak out about what they are doing in public. Referrer is not owned by Google... is existed long before they came around and now they are blocking it from the public yet supplying wherever it benefits THEM. This is not right!

It's about time Google clamped down on Copyright infringement, taking into account the amount of time people can spend creating their own content, images, etc.

Hopefully other search engines, especially Yahoo and Bing will follow suit!

I for one will be snitching on every one of my mate!(joke)

Thanks

My forst vit to your blog mr OWG. Thanks for this summary here.

When this first happened I sort of noticed the changes but didn't take them onboard. The loss of colour on the left was the most noticeable thing to me but I was beginning to think it was my computer at fault. So now I can dispekll that little niggle.

And if you had the +1 button in place I would have pressed it :-)

The question is, why intentionally publish and duplicate your articles on other sites and expect your site to rank for that article ?

The article may get crawled on the other site first and links back to the original articles are increasingly no-followed, blocked redirected or use JS.

They of course do it just to gain backlinks, then have the audacity to complain when the duplicates they created are outranking them.

Those duplicate content only providers such as article directories, mashups should have been weeded out a long time ago. Why on earth has it taken Google so long to realise this? finally they are doing something about it, hoorah :)
