Hi Andy,

Lke everything else, it will be devalued, and long term sites will suffer. The problem is that so many people are algo chasing, they chase whatever promotional method is 'en vogue'. It used to be submitting to altavista to get freshbot boost. Then it was hidden text, then it was backlinks from anywhere, then it was directories, now it is blogs!

It might take some time, but the pay for post blogs will be found out, and the ones that publish non niche content will be those that will be nailed.

So why is pay per blog proving so successful for many sites? Deep linking from irrelevant blogs seems to be standard practice in many markets.

Thanks OWG. Interesting post and a good explanation of how Google sees the bigger picture. There's so many traffic-driving schemes these days, it's tough to know which ones can do more harm long term, than good. Thanks for writing in a way that we all can understand.
